Scholarships & Grants

The Lake Mitchell HOBO Scholarships & Grants Program supports education in Chilton and Coosa County.  
  • SCHOLARSHIPS - HOBO annually awards a $2000 scholarship to each of two deserving high school seniors from Coosa or Chilton County.  Click the links below for eligibility requirements information and for the actual Scholarship Application that should be completed by the applicant

  • GRANTS - HOBO also awards competitive grants of up to $500 each to teachers in Chilton and Coosa County to help fund special projects in their classrooms.

Funding for the annual scholarship program comes from a combination of proceeds from the Poker Run and other contributions to HOBO.

2025 Scholarship Winners

Sydney Beltran and Jessica Solano are the 2025 Lake Mitchell HOBO Student Scholarship recipients. Both are students at Chilton County High School.
Sydney plans to attend UAB and major in computer science.
Jessica will attend Jacksonville State University and major in biology.

​2024 Teacher Grant Winners

Marie Butts, Scholarship Committee Chairman for HOBO, presents checks to deserving teachers to support their winning grant-application projects.  HOBO awarded more than $6,000 in grant money to local teachers for projects that will benefit over 2,500 students during the 2024-2025 school year, with many years of benefit to come.
