Volunteers Have Fun While Cleaning Lake.
Twice a year HOBO volunteers gather early on a Saturday morning at Higgins Ferry Pavilion and divide into teams to depart by boats to spend several hours picking and pulling trash from the lake. The "Renew Our Rivers" project is sponsored by Alabama Power and is conducted at lakes all across Alabama. To date more than 10 million pounds of trash and debris have been removed. Alabama Power Company supplies a barge, large trash bags, and gloves as well as Tee shirts for each volunteer. HOBO provides a picnic lunch following the event to celebrate the hard work of the volunteers. Our Higgins Ferry Park Ranger arranges for Chilton County to provide a truck to receive the bagged trash. The bi-annual lake cleanup events are among the most important activities that your HOBO organization supports. We all benefit from having a cleaner lake. We encourage you to participate in our next cleanup event. Get to know and have fun with other homeowners while working together on a project that can make life at the lake better for all!
